How does a new pool benefit senior citizens?

One common misconception about the need for a pool is that it benefits only the competitive swimmers.  We have stated all along that the current pool situation is a mish-mash of disjointed facilities that doesn't meet anyone's needs well.

We've heard often of Lakeville senior citizens being bussed to Mount Olivet as their only option for warm water aerobics and classes.  We think this situation is not acceptable, especially when the pool at McGuire Middle School is so close.

McGuire Middle School's pool should be designated as a warm water pool that can accomodate senior citizens and special needs students during the day.  Before we can create a warm water pool option for the community, we need to meet two other school district and community needs:

1)  Address the existing competitive pool inadequacy by building an eight-lane pool and diving well at Century that can be used for curriculum, community, and competiton (likely Lakeville North).

2) Add a diving well at Kenwood to meet the needs of the other high school (likely Lakeville South). Two high schools, two competitive venues.

Once we know those two needs are being addressed, then we can turn the McGuire pool into a warm water option and help both our senior citizen and special needs communities.  Converting McGuire's pool into a warm water option would involve building a separate locker room and entrance that is kept apart from the rest of the building to address security issues and traffic patterns.

We need your support to truly give Lakeville the facilities it needs to provide its citizens with an aquatic strategy instead of a mish-mash of facilities!
